SH:C Questions :3
Okay, I'm about 2 hours into the game and still trying to wrap my brain around it all. Nif's been giving me tips on what to do, but I shouldn't bug him all the time <.< And my question is a simple one: is there a way to refill your hp/mp without using items like tents? (I've gotten spoiled by FF's 'touch the save point and you're refilled'). If I have to use items to med, where do I get more? ~.~ I suck and am kind of running low on them and I haven't even gone into the Sewer yet (that's where I'm going next).

I played with adjusting my rings a bit. (Mostly I added effects and expanded the size of Karin's second strike area 'cause I always seem to miss it.) Does it behoove me to have the Puppeter Dude's ring with 2 hit areas rather than 1?

Also, any hints on useful Combos? The tutorial taught the one that knocks them in the air and then standard attack. Nif said to try to have people with more hits behind people with fewer hits.

Meh, I guess that's it for now :3

Actually you will be mostly using mana replenish items (mana leaf, save the mana seeds until you're up in some levels) and occasionally tents. As you might suspect, it's generally more efficient to use a healing spell on the party in the menu and then refill mp using an item. At a certain point there'll be an NPC you can get to who'll do free party healings but you have to go onto the world map and drop in to visit her. But generally I carry around about 5 tents per dungeon.

Mana leaf will get used a lot. I tend to just use them sparingly because I just need enough mp to get thru the next encounter or two. Once you get going with combos you will not usually have to cast more than 1 spell a person per fight unless it's a tougher fight. Also, Yuri learns an MP drain ability in his Darkness avatar form #2. (You have to rank up his transformation to the next monster form stage AND soul charge his elemental level a bit, either 3 or 5. Levelling up an element levels up ALL the forms linked to it. It's sorta like ranking up linked personas! It's just the higher order forms have better stat boosts, access to more spells, but cost more SP each round).

Gepetto... no giving him another attack isn't really useful. He's the obligatory dirty old man mage. ;)

If you get good with the combat system you get bonus items. Like, killing all the enemies in one round without taking damage will usually get you a free curative item like a mana leaf. Combos... take a while to learn. Just when I thought I had them figured out I used a move that did lots of hits but a lot of them missed and it broke the combo. Generally you can think your way through it. If the first person in a combo does a move with an air hit property at the end, the target is going to be juggled. Following up with a push-back type move isn't so great. Hit them with a knock down move to slam them face-first into the ground! If you're attacking an enemy that's going for a combo, use a series of push-back moves to make sure the combo is good & broken! Don't underestimate the power of a small area effect spell, especially for starting. If you have two enemies standing next to a third guy and you can target #3 with something that nicks the other two that's extra damage plus once you finish him you can move on to the other guys. Once you get the hang of it, you'll want to try to have someone with high MP be the 4th person in a combo. If you pull off a 4 hit combo the 4th person can use a special (but costly) mega spell at the end. You want to work on getting your # of hits up. Getting a lot of hits on a boss gets you extra itams. ;) Karen's special moves are some of the best finishing moves in the game and she has decent MP. So if you can polish off a critter with her move, great, if you need a big blast, she can cast most spells.

Giving Gepetto extra attacks is actually useful later on once you have some good status effects to equip on him. I had Gepetto with three attacks and Petrify and he was stoning everything in sight. :)

In the beginning, he's fairly useless physically though. :/

Monsters you kill will drop curative items. Try relying more on the crests with Cure and Heal and all, then the only thing you really need to worry about is MP. Status effects (including death xD) disappear after battle, which is a nice thing, so as long as you survive and can cure you should be fine.

Judgement Ring adjustments is all about personal preference. I like distributing Attack Boosts among my people to keep everyone with similar levels of attacks, just because it evens things out.

My preferred combo is hard hit -> High attack -> Knockdown -> Hard Hit/Combo Magic. Insert a special attack or spell wherever you like, as long as the connecting normal attacks are high attack + knockdown it's hard to go wrong. XD I'm a big fan of just stringing normal attacks just because it's so fast XD

If you can, you really should start out 3-4 person combos with a tech that does a lot of hits. Later on, Karin's Geuschbenst and Joachim's Deathtron Hammer are EXCELLENT combo starters. This has a pretty dramatic effect on the third or fourth person if their part in the combo is a standard physical attack, like Yuri and his eventual 5 hit zones. There's also Combo Magic, which the fourth person in the combo can use. This is a powerful magic spell that does a lot of damage, but also costs 64 MP. This is why I like having someone like Blanca or Gepetto, or even Karin if I can't help it, as my 4th in combo order.

At this point, combos aren't really that important to the game, but they get much more important in later boss fights.

As for tents, they more or less function as your Inns. There are no actual inns you can pay money for and sleep in for the night, but the tents serve the same purpose. The price for tents is also constant, so you don't have to worry about inn inflation. Once you start getting discounts, the tent's price drops as much as half. I'm on disc 2 and have about 50 tents, which hardly made a dent in my cash flow. XD

To add onto that, there are several areas in the game later on that have free healing, so I never bothered buying tents but just dashed back and mooched. xD

Yeah, that's what I do too. XDDD I actually prefer this to sleeping at inns, since you can get big discounts on the ultra-cheap Tents, whereas in other games inns can get pretty expensive. xD

Bah. Just get the tower card a few times and buy 99 tents. ;) I've gotten 99 of everything I can buy. ._.

Haha, you sound like that part in WIT XD

I don't tend to keep more than a handful of Tents in my inventory, actually; I only use a few per dungeon, after all. xD I put my money into accessories, Extracts, and Strike Expands.

Way to replenish HP/MP without tents? Well, I have never play the game so i'll just make stuff up..

First, when you use a tent, make sure you take it apart when you're done and place them back into its box, so you can reuse it later.

Second, sleep outside?

Third: "I see I devour". Devour everything you see, you bound to devour something that replenish HP/MP.

Yep.. *Devours Beanie*
